18 Things I Learned in 2018

2018 was an interesting year. It was the best at times and the (absolute)worst at times.There were moments when I didn't think I would make it. Now as I write this post, I’m happy to say I survived.I am grateful for 2018 because it taught me so much about myself. All of my struggles were tests and even though I failed some, I am prepared for whatever 2019 has in store. So here are the 18 lessons I learned in 2018 and will use in the new year.




1. SHIT HAPPENS

When bad things happened, I thought I deserved it. I would replay moments of me skipping class or not holding the door for someone; and I thought those were the reasons for my karma. But bad things are inevitable. No matter how hard you work or how much good you do, shit will happen. It sucks, but these are the moments that make you stronger. So keep your head up and try not to get discouraged.


2. USE SOCIAL MEDIA IN MODERATION

I love checking my Insta feed, but every now then I need a break from socal media. Spending too much time on social media is horrible for your mental health. I compared my life to the people I saw online. It felt like I was the only one who's life was a disaster. I realized social media is a heightened reality. You only see the bits & pieces people are willing to show. Remember that when a pic of the “perfect girl” traveling the world with her “perfect bf” pops up on your timeline.


3. IT'S OKAY TO BE A LITTLE SELFISH

You ever feel like you give so much, to the point where you have nothing left? This year I f constantly put the needs of others before my own. It's great to be kind but make sure you save some love for yourself.



4. GET RID OF TOXIC PEOPLE

If you have people in your circle, who don't want what‘s best for you, what's the point of keeping them around? They are just dead weight dragging you down. Let them go!



5. SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO BE YOUR OWN CHEERLEADER

There will be times when you have to be your biggest fan. People won't always support your new business venture or relationship. So you better be the loudest and strongest cheerleader anyone has ever seen.


6. APPRECIATE THE LITTLE THINGS

Instead of focusing on the stuff you don't have, think about the stuff that's already in your life. Sometimes I have a “woah it’s me” mentality (sry I’m the queen of pity parties), but in reality I’m so blessed. Always remember the things you have, might be the stuff someone else needs.......so be grateful.


7. A CLOSED MOUTH WON'T GET FED

Our world is pretty cut throat, so wishful thinking won't cut it(Trust me I've tried it).If you want it, you have to go out and get it.


8. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH LIKEMINDED PPL

Be around people that will hold you accountable and encourage you to be the best version of yourself. You will find more success and happiness when you have the right ppl in your corner.


9. SMILE MORE

Yes, life is hard, but there are plenty of reasons to smile.Don't let your struggles consume you because it will only make you miserable.Turn that frown upside down.

11. IT'S OKAY TO ASK FOR HELP

Everyone needs help at some point in their lives. It doesn't make you weak it just makes you human.


12. RECOGNIZE YOUR STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES

Acknowledge things you're good at and things that need a little improvement. Self Reflect, hone in on your strengths and make a game plan to work on your weaknesses.


13. DO THINGS THAT MAKE U HAPPY

No matter what you do, it will make someone unhappy. You can’t please everyone! Don’t worry about what other ppl think. Do more of the things that make you happy




14. TAKE A CHANCE

Change can be scary, but sometimes you need to take a leap of faith into uncharted territory. You will never grow in a place you’re comfortable in.


15. YOU'RE NOT ALONE

There are people that have been or are going through the same things as you. Reach out to them! You don't have to deal with things on your own.


16. NEGATIVE THOUGHTS CAN CREATE NEGATIVE OUTCOMES

Your mind and tongue are so powerful! What you put out there is what you will get back. Choose your words wisely and think positively people!


17. BE COMFORTABLE IN YOUR OWN SKIN

You are the best at being you. Own that and be confident in yourself. Once you love and accept yourself others will do the same.


18. DON'T OVEREXTEND YOURSELF

There is a proverb that says: If you chase 2 rabbits , you will catch neither one. Taking on too much at one time does more harm than good. Focus on one thing & get your rabbit.



Reflect on 2018 think about the things you should leave behind and the things you need to make this New Year amazing. Set goals for yourself. Try something new. Treat yourself. Be positive.
